Tanin's Story

1996

Born in Canada to Persian immigrant parents, Tanin was raised in Vancouver where the mountains meet the ocean. With only a couple working channels on their family TV, screen time was limited until one of their neighbors serendiputously gave Tanin a box of wildlife documentaries. This became the catalyst for her imagination and love of the natural world long before she explored it.

2000 - 2014

Like many growing up, Tanin went through the public school system and struggled to adhere to the traditional education model. Today she firmly believes the very traits that were discouraged in school are what fuel her curiosity and creative power in the world.

2015 - 2016

When entering college, she decided to study anthropology, where she felt she could combine her love for people, animals, and the planet. Alongside her studies, she looked for hands on outlets to connect with what she loved like working on conservation projects on the Galapagos Islands, or as a Farsi interpreter at refugee camps in Greece. Part of her upbringing and travels lead her to picking up several languages — enough to connect, navigate, and feel at home in different cultures.

2017 - 2018

She eventually decided to pursue her education even more hands-on and began traveling full-time to create a long term project living with and photographing over 100 families in nomadic, and various cultural communities around the world. This eventually lead her to the photojournalism industry.

2020

When the pandemic hit and the travel industry froze, she dove deep into her meditation practice. She sat in meditation for 90 minutes a day for a full year - only missing 3 of 365 days. A series of opportunities opened up for her that year that connected her with friends and mentors in the world of entrepreneurship.

2021

With a love for visual storytelling, she graduated from the International Center of Photography in New York, one of the worlds most prestigious photojournalism schools. Her work has been seen from New York to the UNESCO General Conference in Paris. Despite having been in the photojournalism during the 21st century, Tanin advocates for truth beyond what is presented in mainstream media — which ultimately lead her to transitioning out of the industry.

2022 - 2023

After leaving the photojournalism industry, she moved into a start-up house with some of her best friends to dive into her entrepreneurship journey. Nothing fulfills her more than meaningful connections with people who are making a difference in the world.

2024 - Present

After over a decade of exploring, she combined her years of experience across multiple fields and Rise & Roam was born. Her mission is to sustain a sense of awe and wonder for the planet we call home.
